Highland Cattle
About Us
The visitors centre is located at dere street farm situated on the slope of fields above the Lynn Burn in Stocks
The views are lovely and are set off by the addition of our Fold of Highland Cattle. We also have some pigs, including Gloucester Old Spots that enjoy being talked to, and some rare breed hens that lay tasty eggs.

Marianne Halford and her son Ed have kept Highlanders at the farm since 1997, during which time we have learnt to appreciate the unique character of this hardy native breed of cattle.

We have had great pleasure from letting people comb the cattle at Agricultural Shows and from leaning on gates at the farm on a summer evening listening to the Curlews and now would like to share this with you.

When you come, you can see other animals to which we are adding all the time, including our two inquisitive goats.

Keeping Safe
We make every effort to make sure that you enjoy your visit and your safety is important to us. We therefore would suggest that you note the following points: • Make sure that hands are washed after touching the animals and before eating food. • Do not shout or scream round the animals: it can frighten them and their reactions can then be unpredictable. • Children should always be in the care of a responsible adult. • Cuts and grazes should be covered with a waterproof dressing. • DO not eat the animal’s food, or kiss them. • Do not eat food that has dropped on the ground, share food with the animals or replace dropped dummies in mouths. If in doubt about anything please ask a member of staff. STRICTLY NO DOGS
